Individual Therapy
Couple Therapy
During your first 90-minute meeting with a psychologist, you can anticipate a safe and non-judgmental environment where you'll have the opportunity to share your background, the challenges you're currently facing, and the therapeutic goals you wish to achieve.
The psychologist will typically inquire about your life history, mental health status, and any factors that may influence your psychological well-being. This process is designed to help the psychologist understand your situation and collaboratively develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Remember, the first session is getting to know each other where you are free to ask questions and express your expectations and concerns to the psychologist.
In couple therapy, the therapist’s goal is to teach skills and strategies that allow couples to better understand and support each other, resolve their own issues or conflicts during and after therapy. We will recommend 90-minute session for first 3 to 4 sessions, then reduce to 60 minutes in later sessions for couple therapy. The extended sessions allow ample time for deeper exploration of the underlying issues and more in-depth intervention.
In your first session, the psychologist will meet with both you and your spouse to set the groundwork. The psychologist will ask a series of questions to understand the presenting issues and the history of your relationship. Your goals for the therapy will also be explored in the first session. You and your spouse may be asked to complete some questionnaires before the next session.
You and your spouse will meet with the therapist individually in the second session for a more in-depth understanding about family of origin and individual concerns. In the third session, the psychologist will explain the assessment findings to you and your spouse. An individualized treatment plan will also be agreed upon based on the assessment findings and the couple’s wishes.
